These Japanese rice balls are really versatile and take away the need for spoons when giving your baby rice. This is the basic recipe but they are easily shaped using cookie cutters and can be jazzed up by adding avocado, grated carrot and whatever else you want to try. Kept in their Cling Film, these make good transportable snacks too.

Steps

1
Done

Cook rice for 20 minutes and leave to cool for 15 minutes.

2
Done

Mix 100ml of water with a tablespoon of rice vinegar. Prepare several squares of cling film, about 10cm by 10cm.

3
Done

Wet your hands with the solution and pick up around 2-3 teaspoons of rice. Place in the centre of the cling film.

4
Done

Pull up the sides of the cling film to push the rice into a ball. Twist the cling film around the top of the rice ball. You don't want any air in between the rice and the cling film!

5
Done

Refrigerate for an hour or until you need them. Just untwist the cling film for neat little onigiri balls.
